"The Hunger Games" Empty
PostSubject: "The Hunger Games"   "The Hunger Games" EmptySun Mar 25, 2012 3:03 am

I've just returned from seeing "The Hunger Games" and would like to share what I thought about it.

First off, I haven't read any of the books (at least not yet).

The plot was very interesting, however, it's wasn't original.

It's basically a combination of other books and movies with other similarities.

Such as "1984" by George Orwell and "The Running Man" by Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King).

This movie was also a rip-off of "Battle Royale" (which was much more graphically violent).

The all show and represents the evils of totalitarianism, poverty and the value of human life.

I see Hunger Games as Battle Royale for the Twilight crowd. The toned down violence and the immature romance and all that.

A friend of mine actually gave the exact same analogy. Spooky!

According to Wikipedia, the novel's author Suzanne Collins had to write the script herself in order to give the movie a PG-13 rating.

Note I am basing my generalized view of it from the novel, I have yet to see the movie.

I watched Brad's review of it, and as soon as he mentioned how the camera goes all shaky whenever something violent is happening, I just had to go "Nope". I get that they had to get that PG-13 rating in order to get a god chunk of the fans into the seats, but there are ways to still depict an act of violence in an indirect way that retains the intensity of the act without resorting to just shaking the camera around to try an obscure it.

Since I saw battle royal years before hunger games, theres kinda no reason watch a water down version of it.
