Official movie suggestion thread - Page 14 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Official movie suggestion thread   Official movie suggestion thread - Page 14 EmptyTue Jan 15, 2013 11:33 am

I have a new direct-to-video movie that I would love to know Brad's take on...

American Maniacs

IMBD credits this movie with 2010, but it was only released this past September, I believe.

I had read some stuff online a couple years back about this "really shocking" indie horror movie that was coming out. What I read really wasn't the movie I ended up seeing, but...

I actually enjoyed this movie. I thought some of the cinematography was done absolutely masterful and the color processing gave the film a very nice touch. The story is a little weak. It would have been nice to have been able to devote a little more time to fleshing the movie's premise out -

In a nutshell, without revealing the entire nut, some kids from a church group are kidnapped and held captive by a guy who is training his dogs to eat his wife because she's a cheating slutbag (played by the girl from the Human Centipede movies)... though you only see the kids twice and you really don't know they're kidnapped from a church group unless you read the DVD box (yeah, there's a scene where they find the van they were traveling in, but you don't really get the best idea of what's actually happened). The movie actually is more centered around the wife and her recent parolee boyfriend's plan to rob the husband of his "hidden riches" (he supposedly left Kansas at one point to go to New York and act in movies).

Also worhty of note is that the movie was said to have hottie B actress Tamara Frapasella in it, but I think the only appearance she made was a shot from about fifty feet away, searching around the van and no lines... oh, well. (the same scene also gives us probably the best unintentionally funny moment of the movie - the facial expression of the female deputy is absolutely priceless)

Anyhow, plot gaps aside, it's a pretty creepy movie. There's some solid (and not-so-solid) acting in it. I'm friends with one of the actors in it (hint: in real life, he hates Cheetos) and he was talking about how essentially the entire B camera's footage was lost (there's a scene about 3/4 in that is all one four to five minute continuous shot that was handled incredibly well by all involved (actors, camera crew, etc.), considering the loss of the other footage).

No, it's not the greatest indie horror flick... it's not even really a great flick... but I am sometimes, how you say, "easily entertained..." and I was entertained by this movie. I would have liked to have seen the movie be about twenty minutes longer to allow it to bring a little more cohesion to the story and its characters (there's a little side story involving the town's sheriff and his invalid wife that is really creepy and ends with... well... I can't spoil it, you'll just have to see for yourself) and I would have really liked to have seen a little more time devoted to why my buddy's character was like he was... as it stands, he just "is."

But, Brad... SIR! Surely you can give five minutes to this flick. Hell, I'd even take three and a half minutes of your insight.

Good call on LEGACY OF BLOOD. I actually sat up and shouted "You have GOT to be kidding me!" at that ending. It deserves to have Brad attack it.

I feel a little skeevy even suggesting it, but WATER POWER could make for an interesting Snob session.

thank you, he hasn't done a john carradine film in awhile. ok how about this one. even though i personally love the film i'd love to hear the snob go what the fuck? 'house of the long shadows' from (1983) it's a great movie with a great cast but a What the fuck ending cause it's got like 3 endings. i'd love to see tackle that.

another lee he MUST do is "Funnyman' from (1994) it's a B horror film where honestly Lee has a small part in it and i have this on dvd. it's a why the fuck is character even in this film thing! he does really nothing in it. he's pretty much a narrator on screen and that's about it. he has no contact with anyone including the funnyman.

but it's a film that at least looks like they had fun making it. and that's about as nice as i can get. has anyone seen it?

Ah nice! That version of The Hobbit actually looks better than Jackson's version Twisted Evil I got to about 30 minutes in before I stopped to write this though. I'm disappoint that there were no trolls.

I'm surprised it was made in 1985 though. That means it was made before the fall of the soviet union in 1989 and before 1989, as far as I know, the USSR was pretty much closed to the western world and so it's surprising that this movie might have been made back then. Also, the narrator obviously sports a very western clothing style, suit, hat and cane. That also doesn't seem to fit with the date. Strange.

Oh nice A Soviet verison of The Hobbit lol. I also wasnt too found of Jacksons Hobbit. I love his LOTR films and pretty much most of his other stuff but i found his verison of the Hobbit to be filmed with Needless filler(I know The LOTR films had some to but i think the filler in the Hobbit was worse). I really think hes making it into Three 3 hour films just to make more money as though the LOTR books needed Long adaptations The Hobbit can be done in one film thats half the length of Jacksons verison

Already posted this at TGWTG, but here I go again. Smile

Demented (1980)
This is what I'd imagine a Coleman Francis slasher/sex/-ploitation film to be like. In a nutshell, the film is about a woman who gets gang-raped, then slides into madness, and ends with her killing some neighborhood teens (who were trying to prank her) along the way.

And some assorted points:
1. The film opens with a (rather graphic) gang-rape scene.
2. The lead actress can't act (to put it kindly) and has a voice (and personality) that can best be described as Katharine Helmond (Soap, Who's The Boss) on a nice hybrid of nitrous and helium.
3. The co-star is best known for his porn work (Harry Reems, working under an alias).
4. This is director Arthur Jeffreys' sole work.
5. If I didn't know any better, I could swear that this film was shot on quad tape, then copied to 35mm for theatrical release--which I don't think it ever got.
6. It's got a horrid, often inappropriate synthesizer score.
7. It's got an extended sequence with the lead and one of her victims, which I like to consider the "My Dinner With Andre" of horror films (though this slightly predates that film).
8. You get to almost see a teen's nuts get ripped off with the help of a piano wire noose.
9. The ending is virtually non-existant.
I have this one on (legit) VHS.

The House on Sorority Row (1982)
A little more mainstream. Six sorority girls kill their nasty house mother and hilarity and blood ensue. This is almost like the "Weekend At Bernie's" of slasher flicks.

It's got:
1. More bad acting.
2. No likable characters.
3. Another atrocious synth score.
4. The worst new wave band you've ever heard.
5. Another non-ending.
This one's available on DVD. I have it on a laserdisc, with a decent case of laser rot.

I have a couple of others, but I think I'll save them for a time when I can talk about them without crying. Wink

i've got one that he should check out and i hope he does do it at some point. it's called 'The Cremators' from (1972) it's written and directed by the same dude who did if ya can believe it' the creature from the black lagoon' way back in (1954)! ok it's got the talent i guess. the film felt like a 50's film and that i think is a good thing
cause there's a difference between a film being a tribute to the films of that era than when you watch this one it feel slike a 50's film cept it's in color! the FX aren't to bad

the acting is eh ok. i've seen far worse. anyways it's got a terrible script though and it felt like one of those films that
Mike or Joel and the Bots would have riffed to be honest. has anyone seen this piece of shit of a film?

i just got done watching one that i think Brad should review it's a women in prison film that Roger Corman produced way back in (1971) it's the 2nd film in that series actually. and it's pretty bad. Pam Grier as an evil warden i bought it. a

and the acting wasn't very good nor did i expect it to be either. but the film honestly felt unfinished on the way it ended to be honest. i know brad's seen a lot of women in prison flix but i wonder if he saw this one? has anyone?

also it was strange not seeing Sid Haig in this one cause i think he pretty much was in damn near all of them wasn't he?

yes if i forgot to put it's title than i apologize. i have 'the Big bird cage' on dvd i bought years ago that's the 3rd one and that one was a decent movie. nothing great about it they added comedy in it which worked nice. like a bunch of horny locked up women pretty much raping a gay man. that's funny he was a guard. even though the actor was straight who was playing the guard. in the audio commentary that jack Hill did he goes on how they had to be careful on how much

they could show cause you could only get away with so much back than. and that the actor i forget his name Vic Diaz i believe loved filming that. that i think is a better film. hell i watched these films for 2 reasons well 3. Roger Corman i'll watch anything he does and thankfully he never did gay porn so i'm safe there.

Pam Grier she's a bad ass and the great Sid Haig' trivia note i was looking at my dvd of "The big bird cage' today and they spelled Sid Haig's name wrong! calling him "SIG HAIG" funny i've had this on dvd for years i have the (2001) version which has since been put out of print. and i never noticed it before. either way

brad i think would have fun snobbing these films.

i thought of another really bad fucking film. it's called well the english title 'My uncle the vampire' i believe it stars "Christopher Lee' and it's a movie he did honestly i dunno where he filmed it but it's from (1959) and it's terrible!

i'd love to see Brad Snob that one.

'nuff said.

If the snob can get his hands on this, we're in for a treat.

i thought of another one that brad SHOULD do and i hope he does. i have no idea if it' s in public domanin or not? and sorry about my shitty spelling? it's called

"It's Not the size that counts' at from (1974) it's a reall shitty film that has "Vincent Price" in it he's got a small part and no it's not porn. but it is a sex comedy so the title suggests just that. it's just about a guy who's got a big dick who goes around fucking this or that woman and that's pretty much it.

i don't remember anything else cause i've only seen it once i got it on VHS and it goes under the title "Percy's Progress' i believe as well.

has anyone seen it?

I'd like to request a second PUBLIC DOMAIN MONTH:

1. The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973) (starring Christopher Lee, also known as COUNT DRACULA AND HIS VAMPIRE BRIDE)
2. Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973) (erotic horror, apparently on Roger Ebert's guilty pleasures list)
3. End of the World (1977) (also with Christopher Lee, he called it the worst film he's ever done)
4. Night Train to Terror (1985) (God and the Devil sit on a train, telling each other horror stories. Need I say more?)
and if there's time
5. Drive-In Massacre (1977) (pre-HALLOWEEN slasher)

There'll probably be more. I'd seen a lot of films.

Also,

Raw Meat (1973)
Trilogy of Terror (1975)
Mansion of the Doomed (1976) (with Lance Henriksen)
Tenticles (1977) (Italian Jaws wannabe)
Piranha II: The Spawning (1981) (James Cameron's horror epic)
Future-Kill (1985) (most famous for its H.R. Giger designed poster, this non-futuristic hybrid of THE WARRIORS and ANIMAL HOUSE stars Ed Neal and Marilyn Burns of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE fame)

Might-as-well mention these, since Cinema Snob reviews these, too.

The Texas Dildo Masquerade (1998) (yes a Leatherface porno, oh my god) No
This Ain't Gilligan's Island XXX (2009) (a porno I've actually put off seeing because I love GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, and I'm worried it'll scar me for life) affraid

i dunno how new you are here but he doesn't do movies past (1995) though if it's a remake of a film he already did like
Mothers Day' for example than fair game. and if Brad ever wants to do films past that and do newer films i'd love it if he did. but i guess he's got to have some limits.

I knew he had a cut off limit or whatever, but wasn't certain when exactly. He's made exceptions sometimes, like for RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP. I only mentioned them because they are "WTF" kind of porno spoofs, and I wondered if he would consider at least TEXAS DILDO MASAQUERADE as material for a really bizarre review, especially after his review of the first TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.
