Hey all! I'm not sure if this topic has been breached on these fine boards before but I was wondering if any of you guys like a tipple once in a while, and if so what's your poison?
Personally I'm a big beer drinker though more what I suppose might be called craft beers. I'm a big fan of Belgian beers, especially the Trappist stuff; something about a bunch of monks making extra strong beer in a monastery just seems awesome to me. Also, in spite of the disdain so many of my country-folk pour upon beers from the USA, I've come to really love certain American drinks. Anything I've had from the Odell Brewing Company in Colorado has been beyond fantastic and I also just had a bottle of Alaskan Smoked Porter which was extraordinary.
Other drinks I enjoy include Red Wine (though I'm not very knowledgeable about it at all), Gin and Tonic, and Scotch.
How about you guys? Or am I alone at the bar?

So far yes because I don't drink any alcoholic drinks.
Not because of religious reasons but only because it was my personal choice. And that's actually strange because both my parents often liked to drink a beer or something else so they didn't teach me that way of living. And where I come from it's very usual to at least drink beer. I never really even tried beer or wine or schnaps. Sure, in a Chinese restaurant I was sometimes forced to drink the tiny blood orange or plum aperitif after the meal. But whenever I can I stay away from alcoholic drinks. Yes, I'm a boring person
My general opinion, however, when it comes to other people drinking: I don't mind as long as they don't drink way too much.

There's nothing boring about that, some of the most interesting people I've met have been abstainers and on the flipside I've known some utter bores who've been rampant drinkers!
Oh and Otaku4Life, I've got to admit I'm partial to a cold Asahi to wash down a nice plate of yakisoba or a bowl of ramen!

I'll admit, I'm a massive wino. I don't have any qualms about drinking the cheap stuff either - Oak Leaf, Lucky Duck, Rex Goliath etc. I love riesling, or a really dry tempranillo or cabarnet, about the best but I am not picky. I don't touch hard liquor much although if I'm out at a bar I'll usually get a Jack & Coke b/c they don't make me tipsy. Not really a beer drinker either; I kind of like Shiner Bock but that's about it.

Well, thank you But maybe some of you know what I mean when somebody enters the scene who doesn't drink. Either some people say "Oh no, she/he is gonna suck the fun out of this" or just don't think that could be normal. Also I attend one summer weekend with friends every year where we camp, play games, stroll in the city, shop, have picknicks and so on. We share the photos online and some strange teenager who never went to one of the weekends seriously asked how we could have fun, he can't see any booze in the photos (which was the truth).
Well, at least I don't mind since these people are not worth it that I'd start drinking now

Well to me, if a scene requires you to change your lifestyle or submit to peer pressure, then it's not worth being a part of. Also I think the older I've gotten the more jaded I've become with the whole heavy-drinking, party culture in this country. I've found myself enjoying a few drinks with friends at a quiet bar or a sober night just talking and watching movies far more than getting stupidly wasted at some awful party or noisy nightclub. It's much more rewarding to have interesting coherent conversations than blurred memories of vomiting into the sea.
That said, I can't deny that I probably do have a few too many a little too often but I guess we all have our vices.

Being relatively new to this "drinking" as people call it, I usually stick to rum drinks, the sweeter the better, and occasionally glass of bubbly at special events, like weddings, new years. I can't stand beer, as stout disagrees with my palette and most other brews just don't have a flavor I can tolerate. I still have yet to try many hard drinks; I am cautious because I take medication during the day. The most I drank was at my belated 21st where I drank enough to get tipsy but not enough to earn a hangover, so 6 drinks, including one SoCo and most of a Long Island. The next thing I'll order is a glass-worth of Blue or Black Label, as I hold it as a classy sort of drink. I like sweet stuff, and I really am only out ingesting when others are around, so once every month, twice if I have gift cards to restaurants.

The person who abstains doesn't ruin a party. The person who claims they're not a drinker and then proceeds to get plastered anyway and spend half the night puking and/or passed out in the one bathroom at the host's house -- THAT'S the one who ruins the party. There's nothing boring about resisting peer pressure

I was an alcoholic from 21-24, so I could literally pick up any half-empty glass someone left on the bar and have a good time with it. Tequila, bourbon, spiced rum, Jagermeister, very dark beers, any type of wine...those were all likely to be poured down my gullet at any time of day, sometimes all at once. The only alcoholic beverage I could never bring myself to stomach was Pabst Blue Ribbon, to date the only beer I've ever poured out.
Nowadays, I pretty much only drink water and juice. I cut caffeine out of my diet, though I greatly enjoy a Moxie whenever I can get it and only have coffee or tea at the Starbucks at my work (primarily due to a 50% discount). It's crazy how much better I feel without it, but I have no issues hanging out around people who like to get hammered. I certainly know the appeal.

I'm all about hard ciders at the moment. Strongbow import from England is my favorite, though if I have to slum it I'll drink Woodchuck.
As far as hard liqour goes I like Bourbon with ice, low ball, or the occasional cocktail. White Russians and 7 and 7s are always good.

Jack and coke once in a while. I do enjoy a good beer too but not as much.
