Last movie watched: Return of the Living Dead

The IMDb actually does mention an Evil Dead IV in production for 2013. I was actually going there to see if they were still planning the remake so I could whine... but this, this is a good thing. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1288558/
Damn you IMDB pro you sullen swine.

I hear you. Still, the fact its titled "Evil Dead IV" now is better than it originally linking to "Evil Dead" (Original film by Sam Raimi) and trending it up as a remake.
I follow you; an Evil Dead remake without Bruce Campbell...I don't think I could bring myself to see that. I just want some details, without having to pay for them.

Yeah :\ Hopefully another site will pick up some details soon. With the exception of the surprisingly fun Evil Dead musical (Seriously - it was enjoyable. Our little Rocky Horror theatre troupe even put on a performance once, the guy we had play Ash did a fucking awesome job. I played a Deadite :3 That did mean getting my head bashed up a bit though 3:) I don't think it is possible to have anything named "Evil Dead" without Campbell or even Raimi really. I know a few fans who say they can just live with Campbell, and that's a "maybe" for me - but I still think Raimi is a key component too, it's not one of those series that really feels like it can be handled by anyone but the rightful father.
Sadly, if I'm ever to see the musical, it would probably have to be on one of the C-grade video recordings of a live performance. There has been some good Evil Dead material that didn't have Raimi's direct involvement; the various comic series and the musical for example, so it's certainly possible to pull off. But no Bruce Campbell...come one. The man is Ash Williams.

I still think the film would just be better in the hands of Raimi, I'm sure someone can pull it off but I just feel that if Raimi were involved, it'd be double reason to be excited for it. Bruce Campbell is awesome in everything he's in. In fact before I was old enough to watch "Evil Dead," he became my hero in the awesome show "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." I think I mentioned that on the TV forums. I even kinda like "My Name is Bruce."

I wouldn't mind an Evil Dead without Bruce Cmabell, but I'd hate it without Raimi. It's his style that makes the films so unique and fun to watch. The first is my favorite, so I could take or leave the one-liner spouting Ash, but I'm all for a simple story and really cool camera angles.

Raimi's style can be emulated. Campbell's chin cannot. Not even by Roger Ebert.

Best me to it! I've seen no one else was manic and creative with the camera as Raimi, with the possible exception of Dario Argento, but even he's more reserved.

I watched some Dutch comedies again.
Flodder & Flodder in Amerika – Two films about the lower class Flodder family. I already watched those as a kid. Thankfully, TV in my country even showed the nudity. Those films are already pretty daring in some aspects.
And today: New Kids Turbo – This film from 2010 is even more daring. Gross-out and shock humour, it centres around kids from Maaskantje, Netherlands, utterly deranged. They are such morons. Towards the end the film tries to be more epic than it can. But I laughed, so I did not regret watching this.

I saw Super yesterday. In it Rainn Wilson plays a emotionally disturbed man who gets the idea to become a hero. And he does, if by hero one means dressing up and mauls people bloody with a wrench... Also he picks up a sidekick in Ellen Page. She is also a disturbed person, more psychotic and bipolar...

I loved the down to earth take on the premise, Kevin Bacon seemed to have a really good
time and together with Ellen Page (seriously, this is her best
performance in her career yet) made this one great!

I will never forget the fantastically awkward and terrifying at the same
time "rape"-scene haha. Where you actually start to feel sorry for the -
tecnically speaking
Spoiler:
- pedophile... I didnt know if I was suppose to laugh or cry :/

Remember this: this is not some Kick-Ass ripoff. This is a dark movie, and I would even hesitate calling it a comedy the way its trailers describe it.

9/10

Indeed. Have you read the novel, by the way? It can be said that McCarthy's style is a bit of an acquired taste (Even though I enjoy it, I will admit I sometimes hate doubling back to tell whether or not someone spoke since he rarely uses quotation marks or "he said" etc.) but I loved the book and was actually surprised with the film. Considering it's odd structure I didn't think the Coen's would manage to stick as close to it as they did and they are also to be commended for making it a bit more accessible for some.

My cousins are in town and last night we went to a Drive-in theatre; saw Paul and Your Highness. Also, I finally saw Shaun of the Dead the day before. Loved Paul and Shaun; Your Highness was just OK.

I haven't read it, unfortunately, but I've been interested in it. McCarthy's been someone I've wanted to read for awhile, actually.

You should give the book a shot. I'm actually unfamiliar with any of his other work beyond knowing that "The Road" (Which I liked a lot) was apparently based on one of his works. I got a hold of "No Country for Old Men" mainly because my aunt was raving about it, and she usually has similar tastes in literature. That was about a year before the movie came out, I think.

On topic, I just watched Dead Leaves. By all accounts, I should hate that movie since I am "eh" when it comes to straight action movies and I'm even less fond of straight action Anime. Yet at only 45 minutes it doesn't outstay it's welcome and the visual style and humour were off-beat enough to keep me interested, even if the part where they try to cram story into it all was painful. I could compare it to cinematic whiplash; the movie is kind of like a car that is going at 80,000 miles per hour and you are just sitting back and decided that you're probably going ot hell anyways, so you enjoy the carnage. Then the breaks go on full and it hurts like fuck when your neck hits that dashboard and back. Still fun for what it was though.

I've been binging on The Found Footage Festival. If you're a VHS collector or have even a passing interest in the VHS era (which you probably do, being on this site), check these guys out. They go around collecting tapes from yard sales, thrift shops, the garbage, where ever, then present them at live shows. The two guys (Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher) have great host segments and the occasional comment during the clips, and are really fun to watch. There's currently five volumes, and a website at http://foundfootagefest.com/.

They've played at our theatre twice, I believe. It was pretty fun.

I just watched "Natural Born Killers." I have a love/hate relationship with that movie. I love the story (Even the pretentious subtext) but I hate the way it's filmed. I don't mind abstract filmmaking, in fact sometimes I enjoy it - but the randomness they inject into some of the scenes often ends up giving me a headache; like the bit where a TV screen replaces the window of their hotel room and is playing random sound effects and changing images every bloody femtosecond.

For some reason, I went on a big Kevin Smith binge this week and watched all of his movies except Jersey Girl, Cop Out, and Red State. I liked all of them, but I thought the two Clerks movies and Chasing Amy were a lot better than the rest.

And as a bonus, Clerks is probably the easiest to quote casually in everyday conversation.

I love FFF. Another reason why Wisconsin rules. I saw them twice. You should watch Winnebago Man if you haven't. Those guys make a cameo. It's a really fun documentary right down our alley. I can't recommend it enough.

Winnebago Man looks fun, but I'm worried that it might make me as sad as Best Worst Movie did. Sometimes it's nice to let the crazy stay crazy.

I saw the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. I'd been looking forward to it, since I didn't mine the Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th, and was coming off a good movie high with Cry-Baby. It was one of the worst movie experiences of my life. First off, he "teenagers" were all clearly in their late twenties. I know that Heather Langenkamp and the rest were in their 20s in the original, but it didn't look it. In this, Kris looked about ten years younger than her mom. There was no group dynamic; it would just follow one or two characters at a time, so they never really felt like friends. Especially the (spoiler alert!) early death of Twilight Guy. In the original, they pulled a Psycho and killed Tina off pretty early on, but at least we got to know her as a character and like her. Twilight Guy was just kind of there to die and had no emotional impact. The Freddy makeup was horrible...he looked like a torched Na'vi. Jackie Earle was really freaking creepy in the flashbacks, but phoning it in does not even begin to describe his bland monotone and dry delivery of lines that could have been better with actual emotion. In the original, we saw Nancy's descent into sleep deprivation and the effects it had on her appearance, in this, every stayed pretty, except Quentin, who looked sickly and strung out on cocaine through the whole movie. There were moments where it seemed to have promise, but the Elm Street bits just ended up forced and awkward, like the glove in the tub or the body bag in the school hallway. I did like the hall of Nancy's house turning into blood near the end, though. It was a cool nod to the original stair gag that I didn't expect. But why was all the rest of the blood CG? Was red dye and corn syrup really that hard to get for a big budget movie? It also ruined the "Freddy coming out of the wall" gag that's amazing in the original, and really obviously fake in the new one.

On a closely related rant, the DVD forced me to sit through 2 FBI warnings, 3 trailers, 2 video game ads, 1 DVD ad, and a commercial for the AFI. Then, it turned out to be a Netflix-specific version stripped of all the bonus features.

tl;dr: Fuck Warner Home Video, and fuck Platinum Dunes.

I saw Thor. It was pretty entertaining. Chris Hemsworth was surprisingly great in it, too.

I love FFF. Another reason why Wisconsin rules. I saw them twice. You should watch Winnebago Man if you haven't. Those guys make a cameo. It's a really fun documentary right down our alley. I can't recommend it enough.

I saw Thor. It was a'ight.

Nah, Winnebago Man is different than Best Worst Movie in that way. The end was not at all a downer.
