Stop Online Piracy Act Empty
PostSubject: Stop Online Piracy Act   Stop Online Piracy Act EmptySun Dec 18, 2011 12:32 pm

I've been informed by TGWTG about US Congress deciding to vote for the "Stop Online Piracy Act" this month.
Will this bill put an end to "TGWTG" & "The Cinema Snob" for good?
Because I really don't want that to happen to one of my most favorite websites as well as my favorite film critic/Snob.
I've been currently working on my own web-based review series of my own and I don't want to suffer the same fate.
I understand that the bill is meant to "Stop Piracy", but does that include using film footage for an online review series?
The law now says that "the use of copyrighted footage for 'fair use' is legal".
If the Nostalgia Critic can win the battle against the makers of "The Room", than we can definitely win this battle as well.
I'm not sure what I'm telling is the truth or not, but I have the constitutional right to speak out whatever I feel.
Please share whatever thoughts you have with all fans of TGWTG & The Cinema Snob (including myself).
Peace Out!

true but all it takes if for large media congolmerates to tie up sites like this one up with frivolous lawsuits to drain them of their ability to make reviews regardless of what a court decides. Thats the slippery slope.

I dunno, some of the people who sponsored the bill took a 12 year old girl to court for sharing music. Nothing is beneath them.

The good news: SOPA and PIPA are being pulled from consideration from voting

The bad news: They're only being pulled "for now". They'll be introduced once Congress comes to a consensus on the wording and laws of the bill.

The CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America has announced that the SOPA & PIPA bills are officially "dead" and are never coming back.
We finally won a huge victory in the history of the Internet.
I'm very proud to help become a part of it.

Indeed, I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to pass a similarly worded (though just enough change to sound "different") bill at some point in the near future.
