I really like The Bruno Mattei Show, I like the set-up, I like the venue, I like that Brad has some other people to bounce comments back and forth of. Sometimes it's just nice to sit with a scotch late at night and watch an episode, almost like you're drinking and laughing along with them. If anything these episodes have made me want to seek out most of these movies to see for myself, too bad they're impossible to get in this country.

It's a very different take on a show style that Brad doesn't do very often. More for educational value then entertainment (doesn't mean that it isn't funny at times). My main problem with the show is that you really have to see the shows that they are watching to get the full feeling of The Bruno Mattei Show, as apposed to the Cinema Snob were you are just laughing at some god awful films. I am kinda wondering if it would be possible for Brad to start putting up the actual Bruno Mattei movies on his website, so we could enjoy them with him and his friends. I mean how likely would the movies be copyrighted and what not. All in all though The Bruno Mattei Show is good, its not great but it is definitely watch worthy.

I have to second this. I mean I've gotten a lot of millage out of Public Domain Theater and would love to be able to watch some Bruno Mattei.

This is one of my favorite shows, and I'd love it if Brad did more straight reviews and educational shows like this on top of his Snob stuff. I for one love hearing these guys talk about these films, even if I haven't personally seen them.

I don't watch much of the show as everybody else. For one thing, the episodes get too long and too boring. But that's just my general opinion!

I've always felt that The Big Box found a good balance between education and entertainment value, more so than The Bruno Mattei Show.

I really enjoy the show because it has this real kinda "roundtable discussion" feel to it and I love watching stuff like that.

It's fun to watch if I'm doing something else at the time that doesn't require much attention (usually playing Rollercoaster Tycoon or something). I only wish episodes were posted more often.

How many of you have actually watched a Mattei film?

I've seen a few and while I'm a big exploitation film fan, only one that sticks out in my mind as good is Women's Prison Massacre and that one doesn't go without its fair share of problems. But at least his films are fun so they aren't a total chore to get through.

Well, before his death, Mattei did say he wished he could re-shoot every movie he ever made, so one can't exact expect Cannes material from his filmography.

I agree with you that one should not expect award winning quality but even then, a few of them are just bad.

Then again, I love Raiders of Atlantis, Hands of Steel and Super Fuzz so who am I to talk about quality? Laughing

Personally, I've never seen a straight up Mattei film without a reviewer tearing it apart (could have seen one of his movies under his pseudonyms). Seen some Claudio Fragasso films, D'amatio, but never any from the big man himself. The thing about the show is that it's made for a very specific audience. Like I said, it would be amazing if Brad could host the Mattei films on the Public Domain.

His most notable films aren't hard to find at all. Quite a few companies that specialize in genre films carry his films and some are available on Netflix.

His more obscure stuff though, you would have to hunt down. I think that's part of the fun. In the late 90s, after hunting down a rare title, it always felt more special to me.

Personally, i love the show. I grew up on italian horror and sleaze. I'm personally waiting for hell of the living dead which proudly proclaims it to be a bruno mattei film.

I'm just hoping you get into the weirder dreck that came from what he filmed when he located to the phillipines completely, including a PREQUEL TO DAWN OF THE DEAD which happens to be aliens with zombies!!! (zombies beginning btw)

Even with the Internet, it can be a monumental pain in the ass though. I don't know how many bootlegging, public domain, and genre sites I searched I could find one particular title.

I found Rats at a flea market just in some guy's horror VHS collection. I haven't watched it yet, because I want to see what Brad and friends have to say afterwards. What makes the BMS so great to me is that it feels like talking about movies with friends, but exploitation just freaks out most of my friends, so I have to live vicariously through Brad. Razz

Actually Brad commented on that in the stream Q&A, if I remember correctly it was because they are caught up in Hooker with a Heart of Gold and will get some more out later.

I wonder if Brad will do the ones spoony's done (Strike Commando, Robowar). I hope so, I'd love to hear what the guys thought of those movies.

On a side note: I saw Robowar again on my vhs last year and I hadn't noticed when I was a kid, but when they are having all the robot POV shots you can hear they lifted the Predator's POV sound effects. I really laughed at that part and couldn't believe Spoony didn't bring it up.

Well didn't Brad say that he would do all Mattei movies? So that would include Strike Commando and Robowar.

Yeah, the plan is to do all of them. The only thing that might keep us from doing one will be if we just can't find a copy or if we are reasonably sure that he wasn't involved in the project. To that end, the only ones we have skipped so far, based on his IMDB profile, are:

  • Armida, il dramma di una sposa - Bruno's first film. It never seems to show up anywhere.

  • Cuginetta... amore mio! - This one probably should have been the first episode, but we couldn't get a hold of a copy, so we started things off with SS Girls instead. Shortly after the first BMS episode went up, we located a copy. I think we may go back and do this one at some point as sort of an Episode 0.

  • La provinciale a lezione di sesso - The first one we came across that we think Bruno didn't really have anything to do with. The only things we could ever find about this one were a poster and a cast listing. The movie is basically a French porn listed as being directed by a Gilbert Roussel. While this is a name Bruno has used, there is also a French pornographer that made movies during this same time frame, using most of the same actors listed in this film, who is named Gilbert Roussel. Adding to it that we just couldn't track down a copy of it, we decided to say "Fuck it." and moved on.

  • Porno Holocaust - This was the last one that we skipped, due to the fact that IT'S NOT A BRUNO MATTEI FILM!! If Bruno had anything to do with this film, it was so minor it wouldn't even be worth mentioning. This movie is Joe D'Amato through and through.

As for the movies that Brad's done for the Snob or ones that Spoony's done reviews for, I believe we're still going to go ahead with them. The Bruno Mattei Show has a different format to it than the other reviews, so it's not exactly like we'd be treading the same ground per se. We have talked some about getting an assist from Noah on the couple that he's covered, I'm just not sure how we'd do it. It's pretty easy to get someone like Ed on the show, since he lives pretty close to us, but Arizona isn't even remotely close to Illinois. I'm sure we'll think of something, though.
