I'm kinda surprised at BOYHOOD only getting the one acting win b/c it seemed to be the big frontrunner. I'm happy for JK Simmons; don't really care about the rest - my personal favorites for the year were FRANK, GRAND BUDAPEST, and PLANET OF THE APES, so...

I didn't watch the ceremony; LAWRENCE OF ARABIA was on the Dish Movie channel so I watched that instead. I have a feeling I didn't miss much.

The only Oscar movies I saw last year were Interstellar and Imitation Game. I'd like to see at least Grand Budapest hotel and Birdman but at the moment I have something like 160 movies on my watch list so we'll see..

As a movie fan I am maybe suppoused to take the Oscars more seriously but I can't.
I can never know if the jury either has seen all the nominated works or make its choices neutrally. For example: Last year I read that the jury let "Frozen" be the best animated feature even though not all of them have seen the other animated films. Best picture? As I'm informed the jury members were too scared to choose any other movie than "12 years a slave" because of political reasons or something.

Sure, I read the results but then I always feel a certain little amount of distrust and that's not just for reasons of taste (I can take if a beloved movie doesn't get an award but what I don't like is unfairness).

BTW: The nominated (and winning) movies/shorts I've seen so far:

Boyhood
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Nightcrawler
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
Big Hero 6
Feast
Birdman
