We have just lost an incredible actor. The news of his death is beyond shocking, especially the apparent circumstances.

The first thing I remember seeing him in was Boogie Nights, as Scotty the cameraman. He also played a small but memorable role in my second favorite movie of all time, The Big Lebowski.

RIP

I think the first film of his I saw, at least the first I can even remember him being in, was PATCH ADAMS. Not great, but does have some good humor here and there thanks to Robin Williams.

Philip was also in RED DRAGON. His character Freddi Lounds is now a woman on the TV version "HANNIBAL". tongue

The only Philip Seymour Hoffman film I've actually seen in the theatres was Todd Solontz's 1998 film Happiness. He played a guy who makes obscene phone calls to women, would crank one out, and then stick a piece of paper to the goo on the wall. Yeah. So, under-rated comedic skills from that guy, overshadowed of course by his unquestionable dramatic skills.

I found his scenes in Red Dragon to be unintentionally funny. That movie is just....uneven, IMO.

For me Hoffman was one of those actors who i kept noticing in different smaller roles but never knew his name (until I really started getting into movies). I think the first movie I saw him in was Big Lebowski. Very versatile and talented actor, shame to lose him, RIP
