Rare making of footage of Super Sentai / Power Rangers. Empty
PostSubject: Rare making of footage of Super Sentai / Power Rangers.   Rare making of footage of Super Sentai / Power Rangers. EmptyMon Dec 23, 2013 9:22 pm

A producer that worked on Power Rangers back in the 90's recently posted a 2 hour video on youtube showing filming for one of the Super Sentai shows (Gosei Sentai Dairanger) that would later be re-purposed into the 2nd season of Power Rangers.

What's interesting to note about this is just how efficient they are with filming. The various Sentai shows had been around for about 10-15 years at this point, so they had it down to an art. They move quickly from shot to shot, and do most of the effects, such as the the little explosions when the rangers and the monsters hit each other, in-camera. These shows pretty much aired weekly without break (when one series ended, the next would start the very next week in the same timeslot) so on a schedule like that, I guess you get good at it.

For reference, here's the episode they were filming. The scene at the amphitheater starts around 8 minutes in.

And yes, a little kid turns into the White Ranger in the Japanese version. From this season mostly just the White Ranger and the Zord footage made it into the US version of the show.
