I used to hate this movie when I was a kid. I was a huge He-Man fan. But now I look back at it with rose colored nostalgia goggles and don't think it's all the bad. Yes, there is a lot wrong with the movie. But IMO, they did a lot right as well.
Dolph Lundgren WAS He-Man. Back then there wasn't going to be a guy perfectly cast then him for that role. Frank Langella was a great Skeletor. Unlike the cartoon, Langella's Skeletor was pure evil and not campy. And I thought Meg Foster was great as Evil-Lyn. The exterior and interior shots of Castle Grayskull were good.
But now saying that, they did a lot that I didn't like. I did not like Man At Arms or Teela. And even though I like Billy Barty I didn't want Gwildor, I wanted Orco. I guess Mettel wanted new characters to to sell their toys. In fact when I was a kid watching this in the theatre, I didn't know who most of these guys were. Why is that mouse looking guy on here? Is that lizard guy Mer-Man? Blade looked cool. But where Trap Jaw, Triclops, Ram Man, ect?
But the biggest thing I didn't like about the movie was the Courtney Cox, my parents are dead subplot. I didn't care then and I care less now. I just tune that out every time I watch it.
