The Jerky Boys. Empty
PostSubject: The Jerky Boys.    The Jerky Boys. EmptySun May 19, 2013 8:56 am

I recently read a Maxim article about whatever happened to them. Pretty good article with some interesting this about the group.

From what the article says, it seems like they really weren't the best of friends. In fact by the time they were filming their movie, they really never spoke that much to one another.

Also this article made Johnny B look like somewhat of a jerk. He pretty much implies that Kamal was just a hired gun and anyone could of voiced his characters. Also it seemed like he was getting a big head. He thought the Jerky Boys were more then what they were and he thought he was a huge star. Dashed the moment their film flopped and when they went on the red carpet to the Grammy's and no one wanted to take a picture of them. Most of the paparazzi didn't know who they were.

Also Johnny made many decisions that hurt the groups fame and popularity. Like turning down chances to host SNL or go on talk shows like Lettermen. It seems like Johnny had problems with stage fright and was utlra shy, so he had problems talking to people in fact when he would record the pranks he would do it in the dark.

The two admit that the movie was the beginning of the end. The plot was going to be a lot raunchier and more of a hard R then what we saw in the film.

If you have the magazine, I would read it if you were a fan. I liked the movie, but thought it should of been a harder R. It had a good soundtrack for it's time and a ton of cameos. But yeah, it has not aged well. The Jerky Boys had no chemistry with one another, now we know why.

Alan Arkin looks like he owned someone a favor doing this movie. Brad Sullivan is just playing a parody of a New York cop and Vincent Pastore was doing this because it was a job.

Anyone read it if you were a fan. I wish they would release the movie though on DVD. I was a huge fan of theirs back int he day. And I would love to have it, just to have it.

IIRC, I've heard that the two aren't on speaking terms at all, not even in a "Hey, how've ya been?" kinda way. Kamal has gone on record saying he felt that his characters were pushed more and more to the side during the later albums, and by the last one, he was pretty much a "Oh, yeah, Kamal's here too I guess" part of the picture.

It really is a shame, as the first 2-3 albums they did were untouchable in terms of crank call comedy. But, as with most gimmicks, it just ran out of steam after awhile.

I remember when Crank Yankers came out, being a big Jerky Boys fan I thought of it nothing more then a rip off. I thought why isn't this the Jerky Boys? In the article it said that Jimmy Kimmel came to Johnny to see if he wanted the JB's involved in the show. He declined.

It seems like the reason why the two never speak is because Johnny changed his mind at the last second on a possible animated sitcom.

I was a huge fan but as you said, the gimmick just ran it's course. They're now a '90s relic, like Starter Jackets and Cross Colors clothes.
