| Just saw True Grit in theaters and thought I might post my review for it right here!
I admit I'm not a huge fan of the Coen Brothers. While they do have a unique approach to filmmaking, their style of storytelling I feel is not very consistant. The last few movies they did including No Country For Old Men, Burn After Reading, and A Serious Man didn't work for me mostly because of their anti-climatic endings. I hated those!
But with True Grit, it's actually done pretty well! The performances are solid and the Western setting is done well with style. It's a different kind of Coen Brothers movie and a pretty good one. Still, the only Coen Brothers movie I like best is O Brother, Where Art Thou because of its soundtrack!
Oh and to TheDude who's reading this, I'm sure Jeff Bridges will be nominated for Best Actor, but I'm sure he'll lose to Colin Firth for The King's Speech! |

| I like the Coen brothers a lot, more for their thrillers than their comedies. True Grit's kind of in between, but I thought it was pretty good. I didn't like it as much as No Country for Old Men or Fargo. |

| The Coens are my favorite directors, so of course I liked this, but it was nowhere near their best. It was nice to see them working with Jeff Bridges again though, because he starred in my favorite Coen brothers movie. |

| I've yet to see The Kings Speech, but of the movies from 2010 I dd see, I think True Grit was probably the best. Admittedly, I am a sucker for Jeff Bridges, the Coen Brothers, and gritty westerns. But beyond that, the movie still has a lot going for it. | LucasChad wrote: | | Oh and to TheDude who's reading this, I'm sure Jeff Bridges will be nominated for Best Actor, but I'm sure he'll lose to Colin Firth for The King's Speech! |
Also, you have no idea how pissed off I was that he wasn't nominated at the Golden Globes. |

| Just saw True Grit getting nominated in many Oscar categories including Best Picture, Best Director (Coen Brothers), Best Actor (Jeff Bridges), Best Supporting Actress (Hallie Steinfeld), and Best Adapted Screenplay. Don't know if the film will win any of them, but it's still well-deserved for a pretty good Coen brothers film. |

| At the behest of probably everyone on here, I decided to watch True Grit. I didn't think I was going to like it cause well, it's The Dude as Rooster Cogburn and Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Bridges in most movies he's in. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Great movie. Jeff Bridges surprised the hell out of me with his performance and really wish he would win an Oscar for it. Worked for Wayne and I think that Bridges actually did better than John Wayne... I feel dirty saying it but it's true. The Dude out-Duked the Duke. |
