My area in Bayonne, NJ has been effected by hurricane Sandy.
I happen to live right next to Newark Bay.
Me and my family were evacuated.
Only my neighbors homes were heavily damaged by the floods.
My home had no power for 8 days.
I had to travel to Lowe's hardware store by foot every day just to charge my phone & use free Wi-fi.
I had to eat all the perishable food in the fridge before it spoiled.
Luckily, the gas stove was still working to cook, but had to light it with a lighter or match.
I had soda bottles filled with water in case the water went off.
I took showers every few days because the water was ice cold.
It finally came back on Election Day.
Now life is finally back to normal (but not for most people in some parts NY & NJ).
Here's some videos I took of Sandy from before & after.

That sucks quite a bit. I don't know you, but it's great that you made it out without too much trouble. Goes to show how mother nature is unpredictable, no matter where you live.
