http://www.laweekly.com/2012-04-12/film-tv/35-mm-film-digital-Hollywood/5/

Its about how the digization of movies is actually more expensive than keeping it on film - due to the constant shift in digital technology, and because servers and harddisks more easily gets corrupted and destroyed.

From the article:
""
Five years after the first Toy Story came out, producers wanted to release it on DVD. When they went back to the original animation files, they realized that 20 percent of the data had been corrupted and was now unusable. Granted, digital was new at the time. Surely advances have made digital storage much less problematic?

Not really.

Fast-forward to Toy Story 2, which was almost erased from history. Pixar stored the Toy Story 2 files on a Linux machine. One afternoon, someone accidentally hit the delete key sequence on the drive. The movie started disappearing. First Woody's hat went. Then his boots. Then his body. Then entire scenes.

Imagine the horror: 20 people's work for two years, erased in 20 seconds. Animators were able to reconstitute the missing elements purely by chance: Pixar's visual arts director had just had a baby, and she'd brought a copy of the movie — the only remaining copy — with her to work on at home.

I just think film looks better than digital. If I had the resources, I'd totally invest in a personal collection of 35mm prints.

oh i 100% agree it does look better, one thing i wish they hadn't done is make films use say letterboxing in all fims.

though i love watching a film letterboxed and that's the ONLY way i watch a film if it's avaliable. how many films out there will never be remastered to be letterboxed? the ONLY reason that was pretty much invented was cause tv was taking over at the time. and they wanted a gimmick to bring people back to the movies. and it kind of worked and it kind of didn't i say it kinda didn't cause more people got tv's as time went on.

but either way people went to the movies regardless. my brother has a 16mm projector and a shitload of films. and it's great. he dosn't have the money for a 35mm projector though those fuckers run into the thousands just to rent one!

or buy one. he's married with kids. and even before that he still couldn't afford one of those!
