Didn't want to have anything to do with it.

Could be a good '80s Dan. Maybe even a good Snob review.

From what I read Mad wanted to make movies and cash in the the success of National Lampoon. So they started with this film. When Mad editors saw the movie they wanted to have nothing to do with it. In fact they paid Warner Brothers 30,000 to keep the Mad name off of it.

They even did a two page spread killing the movie in their magazine.

You *know* a movie is bad when even MAD Magazine is going "Uh......yeah....we're gonna just distance ourselves from this one..."

oh i agree, but there have been films in the past i've heard people disown or outright refuse to believe they existed that i kinda dig. not all of them mind you. but at least a couple i'm sure. i just can't think of any right now.

at some point i will prolly see this one. i just never got around to it apparently.

Well Mad even payed Warner Brothers to remove all refrence to Mad in it. The Editor even wrote a hand written letter to anyone to wrote in to complain about the movie.

That's how much he and Mad hated it.

I saw it, you can get it on Nettflix and to be honest....I'd give it a D+

It's not the worst I've seen but it's no where near great...or even good. It has a lot of bad jokes in it. I almost turned it off when in the first 2 min, where they had an abortion joke. But over all...Meh...

I saw Hellsing920 did a review and eventhough I think he was rough on it. I will agree the soundtrack is good. A lot of late '70s early '80s Punk and New Wave music.

i always get a kick out of when shit like that happens, when the people behind some film don't like the end product and
they want their name off. i believe Stephen King wanted his name off a few of his films and to be fair some of them i understand and others i just don't get why cause they aren't that bad.

i forget which ones he wanted his name taken off of. i think "Sleepwalkers' was one of them. and that is a film i fully understand why he'd want his name off. but 'Lawnmower Man' i think was another and that's at least i think is a fairly good film. not great by any means but a decent little film. much better than sleepwalkers that's for damn sure.

The DVD I have, which seems to be a legit release from WB, has Mad Magazine Presents on the front cover and an appearance by Alfred E Newman at the end of the movie. While it is no Hamburger: The Motion Picture, its not that bad.

The WB owns both the film and I think EC comics now, and what better way to promote the DVD I guess.

I got the movie on DVD and an old VHS. The VHS box art doesn't reference MAD, however the film is unchanged, and includes Alfred's role. I think MAD removed itself from promotional materials only.
