This was supposed to come out via Shout Factory!, then they realized that they didn't actually have the rights, and Xenon (who put the movie out on video and, if I'm not mistaken, is partially owned by Melvin Van Peebles) announced this for June, then bumped the release up to March. Still no extras.

From what I remember, there wasn't anything censored in the American release. The title card was changed in the '87 tape release, but not on the '97 tape, supposedly.

Awesome! It'll be nice to see this in decent quality. I'm sure it's just as if not even more trippy.
I say the Snob reviews it in celebration. Wink

I thought the rule was, pretend to complain about a movie if Roger Ebert hates it (Caligula, Pink Flamingos, Maniac). Ebert gave this one three stars.

Okay, so I got the DVD. There's no special features. The trailer's been up on YouTube every once in a while, but it's not on here. The transfer is fantastic, looks a million times better than my old VHS and bootleg DVD. It's worth having if you really like the movie, as I do, but I hope for a later special edition on the scale of what happened with Bakshi's fantasy movies. I also want to see reissues of Fritz the Cat and a widescreen, uncensored Heavy Traffic.
