| Remember this show?
It was based on a '70s live action show no one really saw. I thought the cartoon was actually really good. The problem was since no one watched the live action show people thought this was a Ghostbusters cartoon based on the movie.
I think this Ghost Busters came out before The Real Ghostbusters. So when they did come out with a cartoon based on the movie, they had to call it The Real Ghostbusters.
Were you tricked by this thinking you tuned into a cartoon about the movie, only to see a gorilla hunting ghost?

| for me no cause i had never heard of that 70's show until a few years back to be honest. i've never seen that original show or the cartoon that later was made either i don't remember that even being on the air. i loved 'the Real ghostbusters' as a kid. i dunno what i'd think of it now though.
but there is no doubt that people were fooled though. i had never even heard of the cartoon until it hit dvd a few years back to be honest.

| You're talking about the Filmation-Cartoon I guess. Never really got into it that much, but I remember some beautiful visuals, especially that of a long building surrounded by lightning (HQ of the villain maybe?) looked really great. Grew up with the Real Ghostbusters and still love it, but the whole show went downhill when they focused more on slimer and introduced new characters like the professor with his cat or the pizza-guy. Something like that would be a interesting idea for a future Radiodrome-Episode. Shows that started to suck after they introduced certain characters. Stuff like Smurfs (The introduction of the whole time travel-concept with the smurf grandfather and the three little kids) or The Cosby show (Started slow with Olivia, but just died with Pam and her friends). There surely are a lot more examples that just escape my mind at the moment. | |

| i don't remember that much about smurfs like the time travel you said. but i love olivia. i also am not denying that the cosby show did go downhill but it wasn't cause of the character olivia.
and yes i believe that's what we are talking about the filmation version. slimer i loved as a kid. even in the films i loved slimer. though his look in the 2nd film i didn't really care for to be honest.

| I never heard of this cartoon at all. pretty intresting that something had the ghost busters name b4 the films. i didnt see that much of the real ghostbusters as i wasnt born until 1989. the only eps i saw were special features on my dvd and the cthulu one on youtube(had to since im a lovecraft fanatic). i did grow up with Extreme Ghost busters and the two films though. | |

| Love everything about the first Live Action-movie...Slimer is no exception there. Gotta make a little correction there btw. After looking at the wikipedia-article I found out that the slimer-episodes with the mad scientists etc were part of a spin off that ran alongside the main show. Was a little confused, because in Germany it was clearly handled as part of the actual show. Best ghost btw: [Only admins are allowed to see this image] | |

| well the 70's show has a pretty big fan base and i think that the guys who wrote the 1st film i'm to lazy to type it.
were fans of it cause Dan Ackyrod is Candaian and sorry about my spelling. but i believe it aired there originally.
i'm sure it has since aired in the states but i've never seen it. they i think got the idea to do the 1st film from that and influenced by it. but i of course may be wrong on that.
also yes in the states the silmer cartoon was aired after the main episode
i used to watch the show as a kid when it originally ran so that i do remember. it was on saturday mornings here

| I always thought that other Ghost Busters show was kind trippy. I enjoyed it a bit, but definitely loved The Real Ghostbusters way more. After seeing this thread I am going to have dig up the 1970s version... | |

| I did see this series when I was a kid. I didn't know it was a followup to an earlier series because, well, I was 7. I live in the midwest, but we had a C-Band dish. We used to be able to get KWGN Denver free-to-air, which played cartoons after 3:00PM Central. Anyway, they would play the Filmation Ghostbusters at 3:30, then play the syndicated version of The Real Ghostbusters at 4:30PM. I think this was the same year the Real Ghostbusters action figures debuted. The crazy part was, however, that the Sears Wishbook for Xmas didn't have those, but had the action figures for the Filmation version! I also read some time later that the Filmation characters were the sons of the Larry Storch / Forest Tucker guys from the original series, but I think it was the same Gorilla. It always confused the hell out of me at that age. | |

| After watching both cartoons, I'd probably say that The Real Ghostbusters becomes so bad after season 2, and especially once they rename the show, that the Filmation series becomes the better of the two. - jasn0_X wrote:

How much was it? I bought mine when it was new so I can't have paid more than 20 bucks for it.
