| Just got done watching it, and really enjoyed it... for all the wrong reasons.
This film tries too hard to be a tribute to the 70s, with the intentionally bad special effects. In the first scene of violence, the manhole-noose intentionally flexes like its made of foam, and in the chest carving scene, why doe's the hobo have a clean shaven chest? Sure, it's supposed to be a tribute to an era, but I don't understand why it has to make that so obvious. It's not even trying to be subtle in how intentionally bad it is. Alongside the special effects, the writers have a field day at the bottom of the barrel. When the antagonist isn't to busy munching on the evidently delicious scenery, his two sons are saying great lines, such as "Go home and clean your dick".
And the film shits truly unessential, remorseless violence all over the reel. "Watch me smash some dudes foot open". Why? That makes no sense. It's pointless. Every time we get near to anyone having a name or any kinda of story announced, something stops the films and mutilates shit for fun. I know that's the point in grind house, to be vague but skank, but you can only have so much graphic violence before a film becomes counter productive. A perfect example would include the scene where some of the antagonists (Which coincidentally seems to be everyone but the hobo and whores) burn a school bus full of children whilst playing 'Burn baby Burn'. Sounds 'cool' right? No.
This has to be a satire of some kind, because it's just a reel of crappy tribute filth.
The director seems to think films like Driller Killer and Maniac are some kind of religion. It's just bizzare that someone would be this in love with a specific style, and that they would dedicate an entire film to it. The only reason this film was made, was that peer groups could spout the shit that happens in the film, like we all did in first school.
But, to be honest, I did enjoy it. I am somewhat of an offensive-material-thrill-seeker, with sick underground sites in my bookmarks bar. That is the only reason. Nothing else about it is desirable. Its the preemptively viral shit and the source for great discussion material.
tl;dr, It's good because its violent and shit. |

You seem to be confused in thinking that movies like this are meant to be enjoyed for any other reason. |

| Loved it. This was a rare case (see also: The Boondock Saints; A Serbian Film) where I disagreed with Brad.
I felt it was more violent and gory than the other recent exploitation films, which is very good (really, that SHOULD make it my favorite), but it didnt have Nicolas Cage or Robert De Niro, which is bad. Im surprised Brad didnt like it, really.
Endntoe: As far as recent throwbacks to the exploitation genres go:
Drive Angry > Piranha > Hobo With A Shotgun = Machete > The Expendables (yes, I'm keeping this one in here too)
IN MY OPINION
And the Expendables is 8/10 or so (not shit), so take that with a grain of salt. Also, I can't decide if I like Hobo or Machete more, it varies from day to day. So I took the average.
Hey, lol, the two 3D ones are in front. I don't like 3D, but I guess I happen to agree with Brad, that if used as a gimmick, it's okay. |

| Wow, I guess I really was the only one who wasn't that impressed with Drive Angry. I like Nic Cage, I like cheesy 3D, and I like that kind of movie, but Drive Angry didn't really do anything for me. There were definitely good elements to it, but it's probably the bottom of my list out of recent exploitation movies. |

| Well, I just downloaded Hobo, so hopefully I'll get a couple hours to sit down and take it in. |

Have you seen the reviews for it? You're far from the only one. Surprisingly, Hobo got extremely good reviews, however.
It was shocking that Amber Heard didn't get naked in it, though. I mean, she's been naked before in movies, and this is an exploitation film full of naked girls with some naked girls in it (not nearly as many as its made out to have, however), so why not her? That's probably, now that I think of it, my #1 complaint. |

No, I knew it was getting bad reviews from professional critics, I just meant around this little circle of people. Brad gave it a glowing review, I've seen a lot of forum posts about it and I think some guys over at TGWTG also gave it really positive reviews. And I was also really surprised by how good Hobo's reviews have been. Up until the day before I saw it, it had a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a decent amount of reviews on there. 16 I think. |

| True. I guess I feel bad for you then, there was no reason for you not to like the movie, so you must be sad that you didn't. My condolences |

Let's try and keep the snippyness out of this thread and the forum in general Carver. |

| Saw Hobo With A Shot Gun last night. My friends and I really enjoyed it--in fact any Canadian out there that grew up watching CBC in the eighties may very well get a kick out of this. If I had any complaints its probably that the violence gets a little too grotesque at times, but that's just me.
As for it being cartoony, the end theme to this movie says it all, again I think you need to be Canadian to appreciate it. |

| Everything about this thing was completely over the top, from the VERY rude jokes, the ridiculous gore and the very memorable villains, the hooker with a heart of gold, etc. Except for the terribly depressing ending, it was a solid movie. |

| I saw this at a friend's house a while back, and though it was hilariously ridiculous. It was good fun, I will give it that. Everything else was a facepalm extravaganza. |
