i'm sorry but i thought bringing out the dead was a terrible fucking movie. but to each their own i guess. "Slither' i love though. i even have a fan edit of it i found online. all it is really is a fan of the film put all the deleted scenes back into the film and that's it really. and 'Grindhouse' is a great film as well. there are i'm sure some i own but at the moment i'm to tired to look so that's all i got for now.

JOHN CARTER, biggest bomb ever isn't it?

SAHARA with Matthew McConaughey. It is really underrated.

LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III. Granted I like 2 more, but I think that one broke even, and 3 was the one that bombed hard.

I think BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM and MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000: THE MOVIE both bombed. Course MST3K: THE MOVIE was kind of doomed to bomb anyway because it was released to only 26 theatres at the most. The distributor just didn't know who to market it towards. Mad

Didn't IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE bomb?

i had no idea if Mask of the Phatasm bombed but im pretty sure MSt3k did. both great films though. Yeah i like Texas chainsaw 3 also.
Another one id like to Add is the shinning(Kubirck verison). Belive it or not it flopped when it came out. The mcarris verison deserves all the hate it gets.

It's a Wonderful Life did indeed bomb. It only found it's second life and it's place in history as a great X-Mas movie through it's annual showing on TV.

I haven't seen the Lolita movies, so I wouldn't know if they're good or not. Been meaning to see them though....

Ghost in the Shell though? Jeeze, I thought it was a classic.

Another great movie that I've recently seen on IFC that flopped at the box office was "Chapter 27" (a biopic about Mark David Chapman).

THE IRON GIANT (1999) - an animated kids' movie with no songs, cutesy talking animals or big (at the time) name voice actors. The marketing for it was a joke too.

Never even heard of that one.
It had a limited release due to online petition asking theaters to boycott the film.

PEEPING TOM (1960) - grim, although not all that graphic by today's standards, serial killer movie, came out around the same time as PSYCHO, iirc. Not only did it flop, the critics were so brutal to it that it wrecked director Micheal Powell's whole career. I actually prefer it to PSYCHO though.

Jim Henson's "Labyrinth" was a failure at the box office, but became a cult hit when it was released on video.

To name a german classic...Metropolis bombed big time. Of its 5.1 Mio Reichsmark it only made back 75000 Reichsmark.
Not to mention the whole history behind the movie with the cuts for the american version (which resulted in footage that's lost forever) and the restauration processes that started in the 70s/80s.

OFFICE SPACE did badly in theaters, but became a big hit on video/cable.

BIG TROUBLE - based on the book by Dave Barry; had a $40 million budget and brought in about $7 million (gross total) at the box office. What happened? It's a comedy where a major plot point is two inept crooks bring a bomb onto a commercial airplane -- and it was originally scheduled for release in September of 2001. (It got pushed back to April 2002 but there was no way to really market it at that point)

It really was a shame Office Space bombed like it did, as it truly was one of the funnier movies to come out around that time frame.

PostSubject: Re: Really Good Movies That Flopped   Really Good Movies That Flopped EmptySat May 25, 2013 9:22 am

that one i did actually see. and though my brother said Don Don you'll love it. well ok. and i thought it was a piece of shit.
and i like Mike Judge. Beavis & Butthead has their own kind of charm. and so does King of the hill.

and the beavis and butthead film i loved. so why not? and office space was terrible! it was well cast and well acted.

well made really but just a film i thought was terrible. but to each their own i guess. if you enjoyed it that's good the film did it's job. i guess for you. that's all that matters. anyways I was trying to think of films that did flop and

i can't remember if Gremlins 2 was a hit or not? i remember that coming out but i don't remember if it was a hit or not? anyone remember?

PostSubject: Re: Really Good Movies That Flopped   Really Good Movies That Flopped EmptySat May 25, 2013 9:32 am

well i can say that about films my friend. i've seen plenty of shitty B films that are terrilbly made given the budget the budget they had and they are great films. and i've also seen well made films but the script just sucked ass.

there are plenty hollywood films that are well made but the films themselves are shit. like no country for old men. it's a well made and well acted film. but it's a terrible film. how that film was a hit is beyond me to but each their own i guess. as for me i'd rather watch Plan 9 the original 9 times in a row than watch No Country for old men EVER again!

does that help ya a little?
