| Unfortunately had to get rid of a lot of my old VHS tapes a few years ago but kept a few of the more obscure ones that probably won't get an official release again and movies that are or were banned around here. I think there are about 80 tapes or so left in my collection. | |

| I've been on a VHS kick of late, for two reasons: 1) They are about a $1 each, which in my current situation is economically sound and 2) There are titles that you just can't get anywhere else. I'm a big fan of bad movies; probably not as big as some people here, but my collection is made up of some pretty awful movies.
Still trying to track down Treasure of the Four Crowns, Evil Toons, Blood Freak and the Doctor Phibes films. Plus any and all movies featuring werewolves.
So I totally agree, Long Live VHS!

| I recently started collecting and trading VHS tapes a few months ago. I will post picks of my collection when I get decent set up. | |

| I found a place near me that rents VHS. Just VHS. I swear there's a time warp to the late 80s in there. They've really only got kid's stuff (boo!) but lots of big boxes of all sorts of great cartoons. I figured they'd probably sell them, but they're all faded and who knows what condition the tapes themselves are in. It looks like no one's touched them in 15 years. | |

| Well, I finally had to stop buying tapes, mostly because I ran out of room for them. I've probably got about 20 or so I can't even fit into my shelves, and are just sitting stacked against a wall. They deserve better... | |

| oh i HATE VHS, i have since gotten rid of a LOT of my VHS tapes to replace them for dvd. or blu-ray. i still have a LOT of VHS though. & even though i hate VHS with a passion if i see certain films that i know aren't on any other format.
i don't have a laserdisc plays & i never did. my brother owns one though. or he did i dunno if he still has it though? anyways, the rare ones are the only ones i buy. but if it's a film like "misery" which is on blu-ray now. i just have to wait to get it. i may just trade that one in when i do get it. or i may keep it cause sometimes the cover for the VHS is better than the DVD of it. or the Blu-Ray of it.
the reason i don't like VHS anymore. has already been said the picture quality, the sound that did at some point sound so good when it 1st came out. during time it turns to shit. in the older tapes anyways. plus i prefer watching my movies letterboxed. & most films on VHS aren't like that. yes they did sometimes do that but only for certain titles.
one dude i buy on VHS if i know isn't on dvd or blu-ray is "Roger Corman, or a few others like Mickey Rooney, Christopher Lee, Vincent Price. for example. when i got the special edition of 'Dawn of the dead' the 4 disc set
of it a few years back. i gave the VHS version of that to a buddy of mine. i have a standard version of it still but since "Tom Savini" signed it for me. my brother met him & he signed it with my Name To Don.
i'm of course keeping it. so my point is some of them i prolly will keep. but others i plan on getting rid of once i get them on prolly blu-ray. mainly because of space so i can therefore have some.
but if i know a movie the VHS anyways is RARE i'll keep it. though to be honest sometimes i forget if this or that is Rare. when i traded it in. has anyone else done that?

| I think the biggest problem with VHS, that carried onto DVD, was the damn cropping to 1.33:1. I feel a lot of Kung Fu might be lost. I know for a fact that Classic Media had to re-create a widescreen version of the American dub/edit of some of the Godzilla films that they had the rights too, I believe it was Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster and Terror of Mechagodzilla. | |

| Thanks in no small part to Brad's various shows, I've been trawling my local charity shops in search of VHS tapes. Its surprising how many of them still stock old VHSs (3 for £1.50 in one shop!) and the selection they have. I've picked up a bunch of great eighties and nineties action movies over the last week, not to mention a few classic and not so classic horror titles. One day I hope VHS will have a collectors boom as vinyl records currently do. Until then though, I'll hold on to my ever growing collection and enjoy 'em for what they are; pure nostalgia! | |

Nice, in the UK eh? If you come across some of the Godzilla tapes, you should get them. They're supposedly presented in Widescreen and some of them are double and triple features. I have two German VHS tapes, The Fifth Element and Scream 3, but can't play them since they're PAL and I don't have a Multi-System VCR.

It is nice to think about, though.

| So, there's a used movie shop called Buybacks in my town. They had a huge sale on VHS tapes, tapes that are $3.99 and under are all now 50 cents. I picked up three anime tapes for 50 cents a piece for my sister to watch when she visits my house. Anime is called 3 x 3 Eyes. I picked up a Martial Arts film for $5 called Deadly Buddhist Raiders. Upon watching the video, the image is widescreen but it's squashed into the 4:3 frame. So, it was nice to be able to let the image take up the whole screen on my widescreen television. | |
