PostSubject: The inexplicable 'history' of 'Bat Pussy'   Mon Mar 07, 2016 7:23 am

Like Brad, I've developed an obsession with 'Bat Pussy' for reasons which should be obvious to most of you. I've spent the last few days scouring the internet for information, and while nothing shed any light on the actual making of 'Bat Pussy' nor its cast or crew, I at least found enough information on the details behind its discovery to put up a Wikipedia article for it:
(And yes, I did squeeze Brad in there...he does have his own article, and sourcing DVD commentary is acceptable, where as sourcing a line from a comedy review is not)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_Pussy

One thing I find very curious is that the issue of 'SCREW' that Buddy reads in the film is dated September 14, 1970 (yes, I dug through the archives), which makes IMDb's date of 1973 somewhat suspect (Something Weird just dates it as "1970s"). I'm coming to believe that the film may have very well been shot in 1970, which would not only explain that particular issue of a weekly newspaper being used, but would make their 'Batman' spoof a little more timely, since the series ended in 1968 and went into syndication in late 1969. It's also worth mentioning that all of the cars in the street scenes appear no newer than 1969.

I dunno. This movie is just such an anomaly and I doubt it'll ever stop fascinating me. What are your thoughts or comments about it?

i think you put more into this than Brad did on any review he normally does for the Snob. ya might as well look into the making of the Geek or dog fucker. it's just a bad porn why go the extra mile to find out info on it? i'm not dissing ya i'm just curious why ya are putting all this work into a really shitty porno from the early 70's.

I'm more or less on par with Brad; on the DVD commentary for his 'Bat Pussy' review, he admitted he tried finding its actors through exhaustive Googling and even expressed a desire to make a (fictitious) movie about the making of 'Bat Pussy'. The entire allure of the film is exactly in how mysterious the whole thing is, exacerbated largely by what a uniquely awful disaster it is which fails on every conceivable level. There's a reason why there's a petition for a deluxe DVD restoration with nearly 200 signatures.

Being that you're on this forum, I'd assume you consider yourself an exploitation fan, in which case asking why I'd go the extra mile to find info on 'Bat Pussy' seems as confusing as asking why anyone would have gone the extra mile to find the people behind 'Manos: The Hands of Fate', or find Eric "Garbage Day!" Freeman and Chester Novell Turner when they were presumed dead. Why did someone like Mike Vraney dedicate his life to collecting and preserving thousands upon thousands of shlocky Z-grade films and release them to the public? Why would Brad put up four different reviews of 'Saving Christmas' (five counting the coffee)? Cult cinema fandom is driven first and foremost by passion and enthusiasm, even if our tastes are slightly skewed.

'Bat Pussy' is essentially the pornographic equivalent of 'Manos': it's a stunningly inept film whose unparalleled incompetence has fascinated exploitation buffs for years, and, like 'Manos', it pretty much appeared out of nowhere with virtually no known history. It's a film one simply can't believe exists, and that's why I consider it just as much the "treasure" that 'Manos' is. Back when I worked in film distribution, I used to dig up deep info on a lot of obscure trash, but seeing as there's actually a demand to discover the story behind 'Bat Pussy', I'd do out of sheer curiosity, even though I've pretty much hit a wall at this point using only the internet.

1stly yes i enjoy exploitation a lot i'm a die hard Roger Corman fan. and i love B films and yeah there are a lot of Z Grade films that are pretty good like Plan 9 which is Z grade all the way but that's a fun film for what it is. Manos actually i've never seen to be honest but i've heard of it for years because of MSTK3000. i was just Curious that of all the Z Grade or B films you choose a really shitty old Porno film from the early 70's. this is one i'm not really curious at all about what happend to anyone in it. now Party at Kid at and studs or whatever the hell the name of that Softcore Porn that Stallone did i'm curious why that was even made or what even happend to anyone in the cast just like the episode of the Snob from years ago.

and the same goes for the Geek too that's another what the fuck? if you can find stuff about it i'd like to know what you find out too. but i haven't bought brad's new dvd yet so i haven't heard his audio commentary at all. does it show the whole porn ? cause looking at that fat woman is not a sight i want to see.

Every review I've found cites 'Bat Pussy' as the worst porno ever made, which is a fascinating title to hold as it has no actual competition. There are dozens of films people can argue are worse than 'Manos', but I've never heard anyone say that something out there is worse than 'Bat Pussy'. Even Mike Vraney thought it was the weirdest film he'd ever seen out of the thousands that SWV put out. Much like 'Manos' or 'Plan 9', when something is heralded as the absolute, undisputed worst, you get curious about it.

We at least know who starred in 'The Geek'. There is nothing known about 'Bat Pussy' prior to when it was found, and that just adds to the mystery. Plus, at least *somebody* can jerk off to 'The Geek' or 'Dog Fucker'...there's absolutely nothing for anybody to get off to in 'Bat Pussy'. It's the worst-made, most unerotic and outright strangest porn I've ever seen.

The DVD doesn't have the whole film, but it does show all the uncensored footage. It's grotesque, but in the same way a really horrible car accident is. You can't look away.

It's pretty clearly 'Bat Pussy', if we go by the word of Brad and various porn review sites. If there's something even worse out there, it's likely undiscovered, rotting away in a box somewhere in a garage or storage room like so many treasures forgotten to time.

Apparently my Wikipedia article for 'Bat Pussy' was linked on Reddit (with a lot of links to the Snob review) and it became the most-read Wikipedia article of July 18th, racking up 403,283 views.

Over 400,000 people have now been exposed to 'Bat Pussy'. Weird. Maybe that kind of exposure will lead to a break in the case and we'll finally learn its sordid history? Who knows?

Seriously? holy shit man that's impressive i think people are curious on the title alone for one thing. and who knows maybe i wonder what Brad will think if he reads this? it would be really funny though if your post than at some point led to someone who worked on the film to come out of the shadows and tell us more about it. even i'd be curious to see what they'd have to say. next up maybe some people from The Geek will come out of the shadows and tell us than just why in the living fuck did they call it The Geek?
