My personal thoughts about John Landis Empty
PostSubject: My personal thoughts about John Landis   My personal thoughts about John Landis EmptySun Nov 23, 2014 5:21 am

John Landis is the director of great films such as "Animal House", "Blues Brothers", "An American Werewolf in London" and the Michael Jackson music video "Thriller". Then he directed the first part of 1982's "Twilight Zone : The Movie". The movie was good as well as a powerful message about Vic Morrow's character. But then there was the tragic helicoptor crash that killed Morrow along with 2 young children. The footage of their deaths are posted on YouTube & it's still too difficult to watch today. I later discovered that Landis violated California child safety laws. After the accident, Landis was found "not guilty" of manslaughter & his friendship with Stephen Spielberg ended. I was at New York Comic Con a few years back and noticed that he at a panel there. I decided not to go because of what he did on the set of "Twilight Zone". Eventhough he made some great movies in the past, I still find it unforgivable for how poorly his directing work was on "Twilight Zone". What are your own personal thoughts about John Landis?

I just checked out the Wikipedia page on Landis, and it says that while the tragedy supposedly haunts him to this day, he has never admitted any culpability for it, which I find rich given that the kids in question should never have even been allowed on the set due to the labour laws.

Interestingly, Landis is also known for involvement with another film associated with a famous lawsuit: Coming to America. Art Buchwald sued Paramount for stealing the idea for that film, and won.

Landis himself was litigious when it came to the Belushi biopic Wired, which is why the makers of that film did not dare to refer to the character that was supposed to be him by name.

Now, for Landis' films itself, I think An American Werewolf in London was his best film. I have never actually seen any of Twilight Zone: the Movie besides the segment that John Lithgow was in. Landis hasn't made a decent film in years. I look at his filmography and I see Oscar, Beverly Hills Cop III, and Blues Brothers 2000. I have so far refused to see the last of those because I don't want my feelings for the original Blue Brothers movie sullied. Beverly Hills Cop III's suckitude is well known and needs no addressing, and Oscar is just painful to watch. There is not one laugh to be found in that movie.

I've enjoyed all the films I've seen of his, to some degree. ANIMAL HOUSE, KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE, AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, TRADING PLACES and honestly BEVERLY HILLS COP III are my personal favorites. TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE, COMING TO AMERICA, BLUES BROTHERS, and SPIES LIKE US are also decent. It's been too long since I've seen INNOCENT BLOOD to comment on it, and I'm not sure if I've ever actually sat through BLUES BROTHERS 2000.

I liked the movies he’s made; I think they're pretty funny. As to the personal story, I find that I end up not really caring about someone's personal life when I don't personally know them. I find a lot of the celebrity culture could be curbed in this country if we stop idolizing people and see them as people who want to do their thing and should only be looked at publicly for the work they have done. Otherwise, it isn't my business.

On a side note, I think his son is hilarious.

i love his films. but i also choose not to think about the twilight zone film. or rather how it was filmed. yes it was sad what happend on set during the making of it. it's a decent movie but not his best. honestly i Enjoy Beverly Hills Cop 3. but i don't think it's a great film if anyone is wondering. i dunno what i'd consider his best cause he had done a shit load of great films. even though he hasn't done a great one in years, i'd have to see his list of films to say which ones are good and bad.

but the stupids is one of his worst if not his worst film
