They started touring again last year. Claudio Simmontti isnt in the band though and has his own separate band called Claudio Simmonitti's Goblin. I saw Goblin live last year it was pretty amazing even better then expected.

I've heard of five of them - the top three plus Capt. Beefheart & Coven. I had no idea Goblin were still performing. That's awesome.
I'd like to show some love for The New York Dolls and The Damned too.

Those are both good bands but i consider them both punk. The list was to include bands that aren't punk or full metal. Funny you post this to cause i'm seeign the Damned tomorrow!

They did indeed open for Aerosmith, I forget which year.
And frontman David Johanson had some success in the 80s with a solo career, took things in a very different direction:

someone can correct me if i'm wrong but i think it was for their (1974) album "Get your wings' which is my favorite Aerosmith album in fact. and Queen that year toured with Mott The Hoople who opened for them.
and if you listen to i think it's the song Now i'm here by Queen they sing about it. i'm very tired after a long day at work. so i may be wrong on the song to be honest.

Funny how I'm the second youngest one here and yet I knew all of the bands with the exception of Coven. Then again, I'm quite fond of progressive rock and early metal, and I'm particularly thorough when it comes to researching genres I like. Can and The 13th Floor Elevators are personal favorites of mine.
The thing with prog, psychedelia, experimental rock, etc. is that pretty much all of it is underrated. You'll never hear a ten-minute minimalist Krautrock number on the radio...the closest those genres ever come to mainstream representation is whenever Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart" or Kansas' "Carry On My Wayward Son" get played on classic rock stations.

My local classic rock station does play the big hits by Rush and Pink Floyd for prog and for psycedlic White rabbit by Jefferson Airplane comes on and if you count them Cream and Hendrix. Though always the same few songs which is why i don't listen to it(though i hear that station every time i go to the gym).
