Chester Novell Turner, the long lost shot-on-shitteo director of "Black Devil Doll From Hell" & "Tales From The Quadead Zone" is alive & well.

This news surfaced about two years ago. Massacre Video released a double-disc DVD of 'BDDFH' and 'TFTQZ' late last year and then Chester hosted a short national tour presenting both films in theaters. I caught the LA show in October...finally, a chance to see shot-on-shitteo the way it was meant to be seen: in a movie theater.

Now we just need to find out what happened to Louis Le Prince.
He never made any more films; he was screwed over by a distributor in the '80s and returned to his home remodeling business. He had no idea that anybody even remembered his movies until a few years ago when a fan discovered him and helped him re-release his works on DVD. He doesn't pretend like his movies are any good, but he's been so flattered by the response that he's allegedly started writing sequels to both 'Black Devil Doll from Hell' and 'Tales from the Quadead Zone'.

Chester mentioned that he's currently working on "Black Devil Doll Part 1.5"l
I sense a future snob episode coming.
Though this is some shocking news to be perfectly fair but even then, Eric Freeman was found a live last December so anything goes.
Though to be fair, I kind of am interested in where he takes this.

I willfully decided not to go to that screening of 'Silent Night, Deadly Night 2' (as he wasn't announced beforehand), and I'll forever regret it. At least I got to meet Chester N. Turner in person.

it's great that he has fans. why he has them i have NO idea? and why he's writing a sequel that actually scares me on how bad his films are. i haven't even seen them but i have seen brad's snob reviews and yes i am going by what i see on there. normally i wouldn't but i think this time it makes sense that i do.
oddly it kind reminds me of sleepaway camp. why? because as the story goes for that it's creator and the cast also had NO Idea that it even became a cult film and with good reason mind you. until they were sought out and they have since embraced it. but that film is good unlike Chester Novel Turner's films. i just love Brad's word i think he's missing a fucking vowel.
I actually did see a double feature dvd with both of his movies along with commentary from him at a video store. I wish I did pick that up but I didn't have enough money left on me at the time.
those are on dvd? i had NO idea. my question is WHY? is there anyone who likes his films at all?
even i refuse to see them.
I'm sorry, but I literally have no idea how you could possibly be a fan of a series like The Cinema Snob and have no understanding of the concept behind a "cult film". You might as well be asking why people find schlock value in 'Manos: The Hands of Fate' or 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'.
If you really needed an answer, yes, there are people who are fans of bizarre, obscure and/or campy horror movies. Living in Los Angeles, pretty much every screening of any given weirdo cult flick draws a huge crowd, and the premiere of 'BDDfH' and 'TftQZ' which Chester hosted was packed tight, likely by the same people who then sold out the midnight screening of 'Death Bed: The Bed That Eats' at the same theater the next night.
no i like camp films, and cult films as well. there's good ones and bad ones. and Plan 9 i actually like for it's badness. hell i have i have that in comic book form. there are just some movies out there that i'll never watch.
and some i will & some i will give a chance. & some of the films that Brad snobs il'l NEVER watch.

Hey, to each their own, of course, but it's not that hard to see the cult appeal of Chester N. Turner's films. I'll admit part of it is the obvious "so bad it's good" factor and that can be enough for some viewers, but for most cult film fanatics, there's a lot to be said of the unique aesthetics and bizarrely sweet sincerity of any film shot on consumer-grade VHS, whether they're actually good or merely amusingly bad.
Show 'Tales from the Quadead Zone' to someone whose idea of a cult film is something by Quentin Tarantino and of course they're not going to get it, but show it to a freak like me who sleeps underneath an autographed 'Blood Diner' poster in a room filled with big box VHS tapes and 'Toxic Crusaders' toys and they'll see it as pure gold. It's simply a matter of viewer perspective; it's a petty complaint, but I still get peeved by the surprisingly large number of people (mostly on TGWTG) who don't realize the Snob is a character and that the series is essentially a celebration of the cult and exploitation cinema people like Brad and myself have a rabid passion for instead of just another "let's make fun of 'bad' movies" review show. Obviously Chester's films are of objectively poor quality and I'm not going to argue against that, but they do have merit to the small niche of hardcore horror nerds who tend to get lost among the majority of viewers who go into every Snob video believing each movie is just another piece of crap to be laughed at.
It's something which just wears on me over time. I was merely surprised that somebody on this forum would be surprised that films as bizarre as Chester's would inevitably spawn a cult following.
