| I figure, since comic books count as the written word and are essentially the modern form of mythology, we may as well have a topic for them.
Any one see the Grant Morrison documentary yet? It's brilliant. If you're a fan of Morrison or comics in general, you need to see it.

| It's also worth noting that Grant Morrison is also my favorite comic book writer. I love JLA, I love what he has been doing to Batman, I love his previous Batman works, and I love New X-Men. My favorite by far has to be Animal Man. | |

| I still have to read his Animal Man. I've been working my way through Invisibles and it's amazing. And I admit that I cried at the end of We3. | |

| I was in a book store when I read We3. It was kinda embarrassing to be crying in a book store. | |

| You know what's been really good? Green Lantern Corps. And I'm not saying that because Kyle is my favorite comic book character; I'm saying it because it has been really enjoyable and a really good read. Johns' GL has been good, too, but it's been GLC that I've really been waiting for every month when it comes to GL books. | |

| The only thing that I have read of Grant Morrison's works that I had a problem with is Final Crisis. It's not bad but there were several problems. | |

| For Final Crisis, you just need to remember that it's a story about stories and the power they can hold. Everything in it is symbolic. The heroes? The great good. Darkseid? The great evil. Mandrakk, the Dark Monitor? The physical personification of grim and gritty within the DC Universe from CoIE to the present (complete with his own evil vampire Superman). There are also annotations out there that will help you figure stuff out. | |

Sorry, I'm just used to people saying it has problems and that they didn't like it because they couldn't understand it.

| I understand. my problem stems from the previous Crisises (or is it crisi?). Both were connected like a actual storyline and then you have Final Crisis which is not connected to the previous stories. | |

| Let's see... love Morrison's work especially on Animal Man, and his run on Batman and Robin was inspired. Really cannot wait for more of Batman, Inc. to come out!
Honestly, I would have to say that Geoff Johns would have to be my favorite for what he did with Flash and the Green Lantern Corp. But he won acclaim in my brain for Blackest Night. I'm honestly a bit pissed at Marvel lately, though I grew up with Marvel. I mean their soon-to-be-released Fear Itself crossover seems to just be a idiotic attempt at capturing what Blackest Night did to the DC universe.
And I really didn't enjoy Final Crisis because it's not that Evil Won, it's that everyone was doing nothing for most of it. Not really confusing, but compared to Infinite Crisis, Zero Hour or Crisis on Infinite Earth, it was weak as hell as a Crisis. It shouldn't have been a Crisis. It had potential but it missed where it was aiming. Though seeing Batman's corpse and all that was pretty shocking til the next second when you find out that Bruce Wayne was caught in the time stream just pissed me off royally... okay that rant is done. I need a cigarette.

| I love Marvel's old stuff and they had some really good comics in the past couple of years like Captain America and World War Hulk but recently, I can't say I have been enjoying Marvel. Brian's event comics were bland and what hasn't been said about what has happened to Spider-Man already?

World War Hulk was pretty and I actually think I'm the only one who liked Planet Hulk but haven't read Captain America in a while. I have been reading up on the X-Men Second Coming and everything up that but since the Civil War, Marvel's been bland. Like the Secret Invasion was more annoying than anything. And what they need to do is get back to the roots of Spidey, not revamp him every second. Side note, is your avatar Oberon Sexton or just looks a lot like him, Kaneda?

| That's because Morrison was the writer and he knows what he's doing. REALLY enjoyed Red Hood's appearance in it. You do know who Oberon really is right? | |

| Now, here is my question; when, exactly, did you figure it out?
As far as Marvel goes, I pretty much stick with the Iron Man books and Daredevil. I read Cap every now and then and I used to read Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel (I loved that book), but now I just stick to those two.

| Just curious. I had it guessed pretty early on when Oberon was first introduced, though I didn't figure it out the same way Dick did in the books. | |

| It's unfortunately very hard for me to get into mainstream comics anymore. I'm an enormous Spider-Man fan, and had a near 8-year uninterrupted run of ASM, till Marvel fucked that up royally. It put me off most other stuff, aside from maybe The Walking Dead, which I buy in trade paperback form, anyway. These days, I'm having a lot of fun re-discovering a lot of the older Marvel stuff, from simpler times.
Since Grant Morrison has come up a lot in this thread, I'll bite. He's hit or miss for me...I'm still reading Animal Man, and so far so good with that. I loved We3 and JLA Earth 2 (I'm a huge Frank Quitely fan as well). I liked the writing on New X-Men but I felt Igor Kordey's abominable artwork torpedoed most of that run. I haven't read any of his recent DC stuff outside of his early 2000s (I believe) JLA run, and some of the more recent Batman, which isn't too bad.
However, I'll now and always remember Morrison for All-Star Superman. I haven't decided yet if it's my alltime favorite Superman story, but if it isn't, it's damn close. My personal favorite issue is #10, which I think encapsulates everything Morrison was trying to say about Superman throughout the entire series. Superhero comics don't get much better than that issue, which I've read repeatedly.
Anyone know of any non-superhero stuff currently going that's worth a look?
